NEW YORK – Next week’s federal budget will restore age eligibility for senior years security to 65, says Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Trudeau says the decision through the previous government to improve it to 67 was a mistake there must be more thought given to the system of supporting seniors.
“Tweaking the age like this is a very simplistic solution that won’t try to a really complex problem,” Trudeau said during an interview today with Bloomberg.
The Conservatives announced this year that they would raise the age of eligibility starting in 2023, arguing the system wasn’t sustainable, because of the increasing numbers of baby boomers who would start qualifying for that payments.
