Chevron Canada Resources says it’s cutting more jobs in Calgary in effort to reduce costs

Chevron Canada has confirmed that it is again reducing staff as part of a company-wide cost-cutting initiative.

Calgary-based Chevron Canada Resources has confirmed that it is again reducing staff as part of a company-wide cost-cutting initiative but it refused to give details within an email reaction to a Calgary Herald inquiry.

“In light of the current market environment, Chevron continues to take action to reduce internal costs over the enterprise,” said spokesman Leif Sollid.

“Chevron Canada will tell you that it has had a choice to reduce its employee and contractor workforce during 2016. No further information has been disclosed at the moment.”

Last June, the company confirmed it was restructuring its operations but would not comment on online reports claiming the process will result in losing 130 positions or about 1 in 5 of its 600 to 800 Calgary employees.

Sollid said in those days that the assessment for that Canadian business unit revamp have been in process for months. The unit oversees projects including a liquefied natural gas export terminal, oil and gas fields, offshore drilling and oilsands.

This week, new reports about layoffs at Chevron were posted anonymously on the online bulletin board Reddit by people who claim to work there.
